Soya Chunks & Peas Pulao

by Shaheen Ali

Soy, one of the most richest source of protein that can be used in making different kind of delicious and mouth watering dishes. One of the most popular brand of soy in India is Nutrella, comes in chunks and well as dry minced form as well. Nutrella has a very important place in my family, whenever we short of veggies at home, these chunks come as a savior and are enjoyed and loved by my family a lot.

Whether its curry, or dry chili nutrella or even minced version, nutrella is tasty and super delicious in all forms. Recently my son asked me to make the same pulao using Nutrella which he saw in the Nutrella ad where a kids says to another ” Teri mummy ka veg khana meri mummy ke non-veg se achha hai ” . He wanted me to make exactly what he saw in the TV ad. … pheww! So like a good mom, here is what i made, Nutrella Matar Pulao, just like what he saw on television. The best reward any mom can get is when she sees her child enjoying her make to it’s fullest. Happy to see my son relishing it and for the first time he finished the entire bowl as well…:-) What more can i ask for!

Instructions
  1. Wash rice nicely till clear water appears and soak for 30 mins before use.
  2. Heat 4 cups of water in a deep pan and add salt, whole spices except shah jeera, 1 tsp ghee. As soon as the water starts boiling add soaked rice & green peas and cook till 90% done.
  3. Pass the cooked rice through a colander and collect the rice on a wide tray, spread them so that they do not stick to each other.
  4. In a separate pan heat 2 cups of water again and once the water is hot, add soy chunks in it and give a boil. Turn off the gas, strain water and allow the boiled chunks to cool.
  5. Once the nutrella chunks are cool, squeeze them to remove excess water and coolect them in a bowl and keep aside.
  6. Heat remaining ghee in a wok and add shah jeera and wait till it crackle.
  7. Now add chopped ginger garlic and saute till golden.
  8. Add finely sliced onions and fry till they soften and add soy chunks in it and mix well.
  9. As soon as the moisture starts evaporating, add tomato sauce, coriander powder, red chili powder, kitchen king masala and salt. Mix well and cook for 5-6 mins.
  10. Once the soy masala is ready, place the rice over it and cover the lid, cook on dum for another 7-8 mins.
  11. Open the lid, and toss the rice well with the soy chunks such that they mix with each other nicely. Do not mix much with a spoon or ladle as this may break the rice.
  12. Drizzle some melted ghee on the rice and serve hot with raita and curry.
