Seasons last batch of strawberries goes into making a chunky compote. Compote or Coulis, Sauce, Jam is basically a sort of chunky fruit sauce with pieces of fruits in it. A compote can have more than one fruit in it. Strawberry compote is cooked for at least a short period of time in a light sugar syrup and later be preserved to use as toppings or s a sweetener.
Dessert made of whole or pieces of fruit in sugar syrup seasoned with lemon or orange peel or zest. The compote is served either warm or cold. Equal quantity of water and sugar is combined with corn starch and lemon zest to make a sticky syrup which is then cooked with fresh strawberry chunks to get a thick and warm chunky sauce. The compote can be stored in room temperature in winters but in summers it is advised to store in refrigerator. Use it as a spread on bread or wraps or as a topping on your desserts, strawberry compote is an ideal flavor enhancer and makes your desserts even more delicious.

- 1/2 kg Strawberries chopped
- 1+1/3 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon zest
- 1 tbsp corn starch
Ingredients

- Wash and chop strawberries and keep side.
- Take one lemon and grate the zest to collect around 1 tbsp and set aside.
- In a sauce pan add water, sugar and corn starch and stir to combine.
- Turn on the heat and add lemon zest into it.
- Boil on high flames till sugar starts melting.
- Now add chopped strawberries and give a nice stir.
- Reduce the flames and cook till the syrup is thick and the strawberry turns mushy.
- Turn off the heat and set aside to cool.
- Preserve the strawberry compote in an air tight jar or bottle and store in fridge for longer use.
