Flattened Rice or Poha is one such common snack of India which is made in almost every house in the country. Like my mom says Poha has to be our National breakfast which is consumed in heavy quantity both at homes as well as street side. Basically there are two variants of poha, thick and thin. The thin one is usually used for making crunchy mixtures, whereas the thick ones are used for making savories for breakfast. Kanda Poha, Aloo Poha or mex veg poha are some of the common favorites across the country. Since childhood i had been surrounded…

Bottle Gourd is the only vegetable i always disliked as a kid. Lately, the two dishes made with bottle gourd which i started liking and later fallen in love with were Lauki Halwa and Lauki Kofta. I have seen my mom making typical spicy gravy with lots of bottle gourd dumplings drowned in it. Since long i had been wanting to make lauki kofta in a rich thick creamy gravy. Today while hunting veggies in the fridge i came across a lauki and some left over fresh cream/malai and of course the cashew nut paste which i always keep handy…

Biryani is something i simply can’t get over it. This is the only dish which i can relish daily. After having tried Awadhi Biryani, Hyderabadi Biryani, Kerela Biryani it was now turn to lay my hands on Bombay Biryani. I had this during my stay in Mumbai somewhere near Lokhandwala. The taste was little mild as compared to North India’s Dum biryani. Luckily i had a packet of ready made Bombay Biryani masala which i had received a few days back from one of my good friend Anisa Arif also the owner of Zaika. Apart from whole spices i did…

Makhni gravy is something to die for. Anything cooked in a makhni gravy makes it rich and delicious. After cooking, paneer makhni, aloo maknhi, gobhi makhni…it was now time for some kathal to go with the creamy gravy. Had lots of kabab mix left in my fridge box which i had made yesterday. So thought to go for some kathal ke koftas in makhni curry. The delicate koftas simply melt in mouth and gives a marvelous taste when combined with a creamy and silky makhi gravy with a mild aroma of kasuri methi. I teamed up this awesome dish with…

Lassi is a proper traditional yoghurt based drink. It is a blend of yoghurt, water, spices, dry fruits and sometimes tropical fruits. In summers the most frequently made drink at my place is Mango Lassi. Another yoghurt based thin savory drink commonly made in India is Chaas. Lassi is a sweeter and a thicker version which can be relished by adding various flavors to it. Sweet Lassi is one of the drinks me and my family relish not only in summer but always. It is so much satisfying to have it after a light meal. A nicely blended heavy dry…

One of my most fav mughlai dessert is Sewaiyon ka Muzafir. Muzafir is made with dry rosted thin sewai cokked in sugar syrup and topped with lots of roasted dry fruits. Though on festivals like Eid i mostly cook Sewai ki kheer, but as the relatives n friends keeps us visiting post eid too , muzafir is served in my house. It’s quick and delicious! While making a muzafir we need to be very careful with the syrup. I learned this recipe from my mom. In Uttar Pradesh the Muzafir is cooked in a slightly different style. They add Khoya…

I can never get tired of pampering my son…. specially after a long illness when my son asks for a treat have to give him something special. For a week my baby had fever and almost lost his appetite. It was a tough time for him as well as me too. The moment he recovered the first thing he asked me to make was a custard. Though he always like to relish the regular fruit custard, but this time i thought to stretch a bit and add some breads to make a pudding. As expected the pudding turned out well…
