In Sikhism, Karah is a type of semolina halva made with equal portions of whole-wheat flour, clarified butter, and sugar. It is offered to all visitors to the Darbar Sahib in a Gurdwara. It is regarded as a treat for attendees of gurmat seminars. It has the same amount of whole-wheat flour, clarified butter and sugar, to emphasize the equality of men and women. The Sewadar serves it out of the same bowl to everyone in equal portions. The Karah is a sacred food; if it is not accepted, it may be interpreted by some Sikhs as an insult. I have never visited a Gurudwara but have been fortunate enough to taste this sacred Kada Prasad. Ever since i have been desperately wanting to make this at home. Though many would call it as Atta Halwa but the ration between the two is different. Kada Prasad is the only prasad made with three simple ingredients, without any cardamom, saffron or nuts for additional flavor yet tastes the most amazing halwa on the planet. I would strongly put my point here that everyone in life should once have this kada prasad and experience it.
Sharing the recipe below where i have used semolina to add tat nutty texture to the halwa, but if you are using coarsely ground wheat flour then you can skip semolina from the recipe.

- 1 cup Pure Ghee
- 1 cup All Purpose Flour or Whole Wheat Flour
- 1 tbsp Semolina/ Rawa/ Sooji optional
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 cup water
Ingredients

- Mix water and sugar in a pan and heat till sugar dissolves.
- Heat ghee in separate pan, add flour , semolina and roast till dark brown in color. Semolina is added to give a nutty texture but if you are using coarsely ground flour then you can skip semolina.
- Now carefully pour in the hot sugar water mix and keep stirring continuously to avoid forming lumps.
- Keep stirring till the ghee starts leaving sides and the halwa folds in smoothly.
- Turn off the gas and serve hot or warm as your kada prasad is ready to serve.
