Kesar Chandan Sharbat

Kesar Chandan Sharbat is a perfect blend of Saffron and Sandalwood powder/paste. Make a concentrate/syrup and refrigerate it and use through out the summers to make this amazingly refreshing drink. This particular sharbat was something i never heard before, unless until i saw the recipe shared by my fellow blogger Neha Mathur on her blog. I went through the whole recipe and found it too interesting to try. In the original recipe Neha used Sandalwood powder, but as i had a stick with me, i used it to make a paste out of it and use in the drink. The recipe here is adapted from Kesar Chandan Sharbat by Whisk Affair

Ingredients
  • 1 liter Water - + 1/2 cup
  • 5 cups Sugar - or more (as per your requirement)
  • 1 tbsp Chandan paste/ Sandalwood paste - (you can also use chandan powder)
  • 1 tsp Saffron
  • 1 tsp Citric Acid

Ingredients
  • 1 liter Water - + 1/2 cup
  • 5 cups Sugar - or more (as per your requirement)
  • 1 tbsp Chandan paste/ Sandalwood paste - (you can also use chandan powder)
  • 1 tsp Saffron
  • 1 tsp Citric Acid
Instructions
  1. Boil around half a cup of water in a pan and add saffron in it.
  2. Turn off the gas and allow the water to rest and cool.
  3. In the same pan, using a mortar crush saffron gently and keep aside.
  4. Heat 1 liter of water in a separate pan and add sugar and lemon juice in it.
  5. Keep boiling the mix till sugar dissolves completely and the mix starts getting thick.
  6. Turn off the gas and let the mix rest and cool.
  7. Pass the sugar mix through a sieve and collect it in a clean bowl.
  8. Add saffron water, chandan paste and citric acid to the sugar mix and stir well with a spoon.
  9. Collect this sharbat syrup it in a glass bottle and store it in the fridge for months.
  10. To make sharbat, add 1 tbsp of prepared syrup in a chilled glass of water with some ice cubes and serve.
