French Toast Roll Ups

by Shaheen Ali

French toast is an absolute decadent dessert with the goodness of milk, egg , chocolate, cinnamon. Children love to have it even as evening snacks. French toast is my son’s fav tiffin. Easy to make and can even be prepared in a jiffy. This sinful dessert has rescued me many times when there are sudden arrival of guests and i have nothing to serve as a dessert.

Roll ups are like taking a  step ahead to make the regular french toast look and taste more rich and divine. The melt in mouth roll ups are now something which my son loves to have even for his breakfast….lol. French toast roll ups can be deliciously twisted by filling fresh fruits like pineapple or strawberries , cream cheese, nutella etc

Instructions
  1. Break the egg in a bowl and beat it till it becomes light and fluffy. Now add milk and sugar in it. Beat them all together till the sugar dissolves completely. Keep aside.
  2. Take bread slices and cut off the edges with a sharp knife.
  3. Flatten the bread slice with a rolling pin. Do this for all the slices, one by one.
  4. Apply cream on the flattened bread slice generously and place the chopped cherries in a row.
  5. Now roll the slice inwards such that the filling gets packed inside. Make similar rolls following the same procedure.
  6. Now heat oil in a skillet.
  7. While the oil is heating, take one roll and dip it into the milk solution.
  8. Shallow fry the roll by carefully turning it from all sides. Take out the rolls and place it on a kitchen towel to absorb excess oil. Repeat the same for rest of the rolls. U can even fry them in batches.
  9. Take a flat base tray/plate and spread sugar powder and cinnamon powder over it.
  10. Once the prepared rolls are fried, roll them over the sugar and cinnamon powder.
For Garnishing :
  1. Pile up the rolls giving a shape of a pyramid.
  2. Dust some sugar n cinnamon powder and place few cherries here n there.
  3. Drizzle chocolate sauce generously all over the rolls.
  4. Serve warm!
