Karachi Biscuits

During my Hyderabad visit i got a chance to visit a local bakery. I was amazed to see heaps and piles of tuti fruity biscuits which were almost everywhere on the counter. They referred to it as Karachi Biscuits. Believe me i have grown up hearing Karachi Biscuits from few members in my family and for all those days i thought it from from Hyderabad situated in Pakistan because Karachi is in Pakistan….lol 


My Hyderabad visit was an eye opener to me. Though i didn’t got a chance to have those amazing fruit cookies there but i always wanted to make them some day. Recently one of my co blogger and facebook friend Garima Sarolia from www.cafegarima.com made these amazing cookies and within a day it was all over face book. After that i started seeing so many Karachi Biscuit posts that it really encouraged me to bake few for me too. The ingredients required are so handy and easily available. It was unbelievable to see such amazing aromatic cookies baking out from my oven with such an ease. Though the recipe i followed was adapted from http://www.sharmispassions.com/2011/12/eggless-fruit-cookies-tutti-frutti.html but i dedicate this to my friend Garima who simply freshened up all my childhood memories with her post.

  1. In a large bowl, mix butter and powdered sugar. Whisk it till creamy and light.
  2. Add maida and tuti fruity and mix all together with your hand.
  3. Add 1-2 tbsp of milk to make a smooth and sticky dough.
  4. Take a sheet of butter paper. shape the dough as a log and roll withing the butter paper. Dust the log with some flour while rolling. Pack the both the sides of the butter paper roll.
  5. Set the rolled logs in the freezer for 40-45mins. This will make the log firm.
  6. After 40 mins take out the log from the freezer and unroll it from the butter paper. Take a sharp knife and make equal sized slices. Mean while pre heat the oven 350 degree C for 10 mins. You can keep the biscuit slices in the refrigerator till the oven is pre heating.
  7. In a baking tray adjust parchment paper / butter paper and place the biscuits. Keep some distance between the biscuits as it may expand a little while baking.
  8. Bake them for 12 - 15 mins only. Keep checking them in intervals. It took me correct 15 mins to bake the cookies.
  9. Cool them on a wire rack and later store them in an air tight container.
