Adrak Elaichi Ki Chai

by Shaheen Ali

Today, India is one of the largest tea producers in the world, although over 70 per cent of its tea is consumed within India itself. In this, India is also among the top 5 per-capita tea consumers. A number of renowned teas, such as Assam and Darjeeling, also grow exclusively in India. The Indian tea industry has grown to own many global tea brands and has evolved into one of the most technologically equipped tea industries in the world. Nothing beats cold in the winter like a piping hot cup of ginger tea. With its high levels of Vitamin C, magnesium and other minerals, ginger root is extremely beneficial for health.

Once made into tea, you can add peppermint, honey, cardamom or lemon to mask the taste of the ginger. Here’s why you should have this soothing beverage.

Drinking a cup of ginger tea before traveling can help prevent the nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness. You can also drink a cuppa at the first sign of nausea to relieve the symptom.

Ginger contains anti-inflammatory properties that make it an ideal home remedy for muscle and joint problems. In addition to drinking ginger tea, you can also use it to soak inflamed joints. Ginger tea can help strengthen your immunity due to the high levels of antioxidants in ginger.

Ginger tea when masked with the flavor of cardamom equally adds health benefits to the human body.

Cardamom tea has a whole bunch of antioxidants in them. These help in fighting the free radicals that would otherwise be a reason for the cancer your body may suffer. It is also a reason why cardamom is a really good anti-aging spice.

It provides your skin with that lush, glowing look. This is mainly because it boosts the blood circulation to your skin and therefore does what it does.

With all the anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties your hair derives from this tea, it will also protect your scalp from different type of infections.

  1. Heat water in a sauce pan. As soon as the water starts boiling, add sugar, tea leaves and pounded cardamom and ginger.
  2. When the tea brews add milk and simmer the gas.
  3. Let the concoction boil for few minutes. You can regulate the flame till the tea rises up once and then let it boil in low heat.
  4. You will feel the aroma fuming out as the tea boils and the color getting strong.
  5. Turn off the gas flames and strain the tea through a sieve in a kettle.
  6. Serve the piping hot tea with your favorite snack. I chose to have it with some samosa in a very desi style.
